2-23-08 Birthday Bite for Mike PDF Print E-mail
I was with JB Corn and his father in law Mike from Indiana.  It was Mike's 65th birthday and we set out to give him a birthday he won't forget.  We hit fish at every patch of shell we stopped at.  First it was JB with the honey hole, then it was Mike's turn.  We found a small toehead that was full of drum and quickly put our limits in the box and then released a few more.  At the end of the day, we had 27 keeper fish and LOTS of meat.  Mike said it was one of the best trips he has ever had and that he also caught the biggest fish of his life.  I love to help people have times like this that they will remember forever.

2-22-08 Mixed box in the North wind PDF Print E-mail
Today I had Conor Harrison from the Kerrville Daily Times.  The weather man was off quite a bit this morning, but we made the best of it anyways.  We started out on Matagorda and put a few fish in the box including a nice 20 inch trout.  After that we made a run and limited him out on Drum and Sheepshead.  When the sun came out, we went drifting for Trout and found a nice batch of fish in Mud Bay.  Conor was a blast to fish with and I really enjoyed his company.  I am looking forward to seeing him when the trout bite really turns on.  Overall, we caught a decent box and overcame the ugly morning conditions.

2-21-08 Father and Son plus One PDF Print E-mail
I had an interesting group of guys get together today to fish.  Steve Kocackli and Tim Harle met at the bar Wednesday night and we taking Tim's son fishing on Thursday morning.  It was VERY foggy so we trailered the boat to Seadrift instead of running over there.  We got on fish pretty quick and put a few in the box at each stop.  Christian Harle is 11 years old and he definately has a passion for fishing.  He caught more fish than anyone, but he was also ready to cheer on his Dad with each hook up.  We ended the day in an area where Steve was throwing gulps and catching trout frequently.  He even caught a big drum on the gulp.  I hope to get the chance to wade with Steve as I think artificals are his preference as well as his strong point.  Tim and Christian are already planning on coming back out in April.  Aside from the fog, it was an awesome day.

2-20-08 Limits and more Limits PDF Print E-mail
I was up north again today and the fish were finally back in one of my favorite areas.  Our first anchor only netted us a few fish, but our second put us over the limit quickly.  The reds and drum were in here and they were thick.  It seemed like the rain only helped the fishing.  After we limited out here, we went looking for trout and we found several nice ones also.  My client Fred made a believer out of me with the morning glory sand eel as it was producing some quality fish.  It was a little wet today, but as Buddy Lindsey says "I haven't caught a fish yet that wasn't wet"!  I take action like this any day with the rain!

2-17-08 Bull Drum Run is On PDF Print E-mail

We ran over to Ingleside to see if the big boys were in yet and they are.  We hit 3 fish in the 40 to 50 lb. range in the first hour and a half.  It took us about 25 to 30 to catch each one, so it was pretty much a fish every time we dropped a bait down.  They should be in here for a while so if you want to catch a HUGE fish, now is the time!!!

2-13-08 Cold Start to Hot Fishing PDF Print E-mail

I started today with some of the other guides in the area.  We went all over St. Charles and only caught 1 fish by 11:30.  It was calm and cold, never a good combination.  I went to San Antonio Bay in the afternoon and we had limits of drum and sheepshead in an hour.  Every patch of shell we hit had fish on it.  We released about 20 drum that were all 20-25 inches long.  I hope the fish stay in here for a while as it was a great area last year.
