3-18-08 High Winds and Big Fish PDF Print E-mail
Today I had Ray Amaya and his 2 sons.  The forecast was NOT in our favor today, but we made a run for it anyways.  Ray sr. was heading to work so I offered to take the boys to and from the dock.  When we got bait, Ray jr. didn't want to rub the Budda and it showed in the end.  We started in Ingleside so Dad could fish for a few hours before work, but the fish just weren't in there.  At 11:00 I trailered over to Goose Island and hoped we could find some fish before the rain.  Our first anchor produced some really nice fish.  David rubbed the Budda and guess what????  He outfished his brother BIGTIME!!!  He had one drum that was 29 inches long.  Soon after our first move, the storm was looming on the horizon and we decided to head back.  We had 9 drum and 1 red.  The drum were either 14 1/2 inches or over 25 inches.  It was weird to see so many big and small fish with none in between.  These 2 really hung in through some awful conditions to come up with a decent box of big fish.

3-15-08 Smacking 'em with the Pearsons PDF Print E-mail
Doyle and Troy Pearson brought their cousin Lisa down for a little family time on the water.  I knew I was in for it when Lisa showed up with her Curado reel and her high end rod.  They had warned me that she could fish and they were well informed.  Doyle and Lisa made Troy and I look like amateurs.  They must have put the first 10 fish in the box.  Doyle had the biggest fish today with a HUGE, legal drum.  And then he followed that up with a really nice redfish.  We caught fish all day long.  the final count was 13 drum, 13 channel cats, 5 sheepshead and 1 redfish.

3-13-08 Good Fishing Again!!! PDF Print E-mail
I was with Debra May and her family George and John today.  We instantly made the long run to San Antonio Bay and it paid off AGAIN for us.  Debra got on the board pretty quick and the John followed.  George was just waiting for the right spot before he really starting filling the box and filling it fast.  This family was a complete joy to fish with.  They were all such nice people and they really made my day easy by catching most every fish that hit.  It got a little windy on us, but we waited a little while and it calmed down again.  We ended up with 11 drum, 8 sheepshead, 3 channel cats and 1 redfish.

3-10-08 The Rare 0 PDF Print E-mail
I had Bill Millison and his step son today and we went out of Cove Harbor.  We fished everywhere and never found any decent fish.  I haven't gotten skunked in over a year, but I did today.  We also got caught in the worst weather system of the season.  Maybe this had something to do with the horrible fishing.  I'm heading back up North next trip and we'll see if it gets any better.

3-8-08 Short Trip with Dixie and Gene PDF Print E-mail
I was with Gene and Dixie again today, but it didn't last long.  Our first drift netted us a couple of nice trout, but then Dixie started feeling bad and they called it a day.

3-7-08 REDFISH MANIA!!! PDF Print E-mail

There was a hard north wind today and we almost didn't  fish.  We waited until the afternoon to go and it was a good call.  Our first anchor was supposed to be for redfish, but the bull drum had moved in and ran the reds out of that area.  We had 3 on within the first 5 minutes.  All of these fish were over 30 lbs.  and the fight went on for the better part of an hour.  We only had 10lb test line on and we had to be very careful not to break these big boys off.  After we got the first round in and released, we put them back out for round 2.  Again, 3 fish on and they were all HUGE!!!  We broke one off, but got the other 2 in.   We decided we were done with these monsters and went to another one of my favorite redfish holes.  We had 2 on instantly and the action never stopped.  We could see large schools of reds cruising around the flats.  After several double hook ups, we had 6 reds on at one time.  Every rod we had out went off and it was utter chaos!!  We lost a few, but most of them made it in the boat.  After an hour and ten mintues, we had caught 21 slot redfish and lost several others.  The average weight of the reds was 7 lbs.  All in all, we had over 271 lbs. of fish (as per the Boga grips).  We only kept a few fish for the grill, but it was one of the best redfish days of the year.
