Dan's Flog (Fishing Log)
4-11-08 Bristol, Indiana PDF Print E-mail
Today I had Jim Johnson and his son AJ from Bristol, Indiana.  We started out on a nice shell patch and quickly picked up 4 nice drum.  We then headed out to San Antonio Bay in search of a better bite.  The first patch of shell we hit had lots of fish on it.  We landed another 4 keeper drum and 2 sheepshead here along with lots of pup drum.  As the front hit, it began to get rough so we headed in to calmer waters.  Aj hooked up with a big oversized drum in the flats and fought the fish for quite a while.  He did a great job on this big fish and got it to the boat.  After a few pictures, we released her to fight another day.  We hit up the redfish hole on the way in and found 5 more keeper fish here.  It was a beautiful weather day and the company was great.

We took an afternoon trip today and it was very productive.  We made 1 anchor and found 4 reds, 2 big trout and a drum.  We then decided to drift and the first cast brought Tony a trout as fat as my leg- REALLY- THAT FAT!!  This is  a sign of things to come.  The water is warming and the trout are full of eggs.

I had brady Williams and his son today.  I went straight to the back of St. Charles of found only small fish.  With time running out, I went to the "old faithful" spot.  Once again, it was holding some more reds.  Brady's son landed a few nice ones and so did Dad.

Tony and I went out for fun today and we had one BIG problem.  We couldn't find any reds under 28 inches until about 12:00.  I caught my limit of oversized reds and then some.  Finally we found our slot fish and quickly boxed 5 more keeper reds along with 3 drum and a trout.  The high water has put the fish in the expected areas.

I was still on Capt. Tony's boat today and it was a blessing in disguise.  I had Rodney Crosby with his 3 boys.  Cade and  Cooper were twin 6 year olds and Cole was 9.  These kids love to fish.  They were excellent on the boat.  We decided to fish shell first and we had a lot of break offs.  I think Tony tied leaders for 2 hours straight.  Our first couple of stops brought us 9 solid fish, mostly drum and the we headed to one of my favorite high water spots for the afternoon redfish bite.  After a couple of anchors, we found 6 big reds and a few more drum.  I think Cole wanted to mount every redfish he caught.  These kids did better fighting fish than a lot of my adult clients.  I was very impressed with their fishing ability.  Dad was very patient with them and their teamwork paid off bigtime for them.  The total catch today was 8 sheepshead, 4 drum and 6 big reds.  Way to go kids!!!
