2-22-07 JUST RIGGING AROUND PDF Print E-mail

It was playtime today with calm seas and clear water.  We left Port A at 6:00 and were at the rigs by 7:15.  Our first pass brought in a small Bonita which we kept for a future shark trip.  We had one good blow up by a Wahoo, but failed to hook up.  We made a couple of moves before we finally got the bite we were looking for.  We had 2 Kings on at once when one rod started to act strange.  We saw a flash and then brought up a half of Kingfish.  We moved over to the next rig and the bite got RED HOT!  It was a double hook up everytime.  We even had 3 on a few times with only 2 guys on the boat.  We finally started to play with them by trolling really fast and forcing torpedo like hits.  We had 3 or 4 different fish coming out of the water at one time.  I would look back to see a Kingfish 10 feet in the air with a pink skirt in it's mouth.  We netted about 20 Kings (only keeping 4 of course), 5 Bonita, a nice Spanish Mackeral, and a Bluefish.  We were back at the dock by 1:15 and we had an awesome day on the water.  I am getting really excited about the upcoming summer and the flat seas that accompany it.

1-27-07 YUM YUM DRUM!! PDF Print E-mail
Philly and I went out for a quick fish this evening and it was fun.  The temp. was hanging around 45 and the wind was blowing hard out of the North.  We didn't have to stay long to fill the box.  We had limits of drum shortly and decided to get off the water before the rain came down.  It was a good night with a big moon.  St. Charles can be very productive this time of the year.

1-26-07 Hard Day!! PDF Print E-mail
Today I took Paul Blom from Iowa out for a day on the water.  South Texas can be cold and damp.  Mr. Blom found out the hard way just how cold it can be on the water.  He explained to me the Iowa is cold, but this was miserable.  Water temps were low and the 4 inches of rain we had messed up the water pretty good.  We found a few fish, but it was a very hard day.  San Antonio Bay is very ugly after a lot of rain.

1-13-07 More fat fish! PDF Print E-mail

Today I had the pleasure of taking Norman Jennings with ERA Helicopters out to San Antonio Bay.  We made a few unproductive drifts before making the long run, but it was worth it again.  The first spot produced limits of nice drum.  We moved on to another spot and it was sheepshead and trout.  We quickly had 32 fish in the box and Norman said he was tired and ready to go home.  Norman was a very nice guy and he really knew how to fish.

And the Fog rolls in! 1-5-07 PDF Print E-mail
Today I took Jason Downs with United Coutnrtywide out to San Antonio Bay.  The weather was supposed to be very nice, but I am learning agian to second guess the weather man.  It was foggy in the moring and cool.  We bounced around from reef to reef for a while, but the calm water was making it hard t get the fish to bite.  We tried half moon reef for a few minutes, but the water was in really bad shape.  It wasn't until 1:00 that any thing started to happen.  We were anchored up on a small patch of shell when we saw a huge fog cloud rolling towards us.  It was so unique because it made a silver rainbow.  As soon as the fog got to us, we started slamming fish.  Every time it went out, it was FISH ON!!  In a few short minutes, we filled the box.  It was almost as if the fog brought the fish.  As soon as the fog lifted, the bite was over.  It was a great day on the water with a wonderful guest.

Today I took David Anderson and his two boys fishing.  Josh and Brad came down from Bastrop.  We got started early, but the bite didn't turn on until noon or so.  Fishing with these 2 kids reminded me of all my fishing trips when I was young.  They were both so excited and full of questions.  This was all new to them and it was my job to make it an experience of a lifetime.  By the end of the trip, it was something these boys will never forget.  They caught trout, drum, sheepshead, and a flounder.  It was all David and I could do to keep a bait in the water.  We baited hooks and threw them out while the other 2 reeled them in.  Again, the box was totally full and everyone was worn out.  This was a great way to end the year and these guys were awesome to fish with!!
